    WW 2 & POST WAR SOUTH AFRICAN 6 MEDAL GROUPING TO A HIGHLY DECORATED POLICEMAN
    . PTE. ZIETSMAN WAS CAPTURED ON OR ABOUT 14 SEPTEMBER 1942. HE WAS HELD AT THE INFAMOUS STALAG 4B NEAR MUHLBERG, GERMANY UNTIL RELEASED ON 11 JUNE 1945. THE LIBERATING RUSSIANS HELD THE RELEASE OF THE POW'S FOR OVER A MONTH, HENCE HIS DELAYED RELEASE DATE. HE WAS A WAR-TIME CONFIRMED P.O.W. AS REFLECTED IN HIS RESEARCH FILE IN SEVERAL PLACES!
    ZIETSMAN WAS A POLICEMAN BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER WW 2. DURING THE WAR HE SERVED WITH THE 1st AND 2nd BATTALIONS OF THE SA POLICE (MILITARY).
    INCLUDES HIS 20+ PAGE REFERENCE FILE.
    THIS IS AN ORIGINAL MEDAL GROUPING. ONE ODDITY IS THE WAR MEDAL IS NAMED TO A DIFFERENT INDIVIDUAL. THIS WAS A DIRECT FAMILY PURCHASE AND THE MEDAL RIBBONS ARE SEWN TOGETHER, SO THESE MEDALS HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR A LONG TIME. UNKNOWN WHY HE HAS A DIFFERENT SOLDIER'S WAR MEDAL? A FRIEND?
    HE RECEIVED HIS POLICE MERIT STAR ON 28 MARCH 1966. ALL OF THE OTHER 5 MEDALS ARE NAMED AND NUMBERED TO ZIETSMAN.
