    Oregon
Sunstone is the State Gem of Oregon, which is the Only source for this beautiful Gem. Most of the Oregon
Sunstone has a metallic appearance due to reflective copper Schiller. Cleaner colored sunstone without Schiller is MUCH, MUCH rarer and commands true Collector Gemstone prices! It is a rare and sought after item that is growing in popularity and price. Oregon Sunstone differs from sunstones found in other worldwide locales in color, a strong pleochroism, and a glittering Schiller effect created by pure native copper. In fact Oregon is the only known deposit of this rare Copper Bearing Feldspar, Labradorite.
For cutting info and orientation of Schiller in Plush Oregon Sunstone, Please visit our web site page Double Eagle Mine
Almost all colored crystals may have some form of Schiller. Schiller is particles of suspended copper that forms within the crystal. Copper is the main coloring agent in Oregon Sunstone, therefore colored stone with no Schiller will receive a higher price value. Schiller makes identifying a natural untreated cut stone or rough quite easy. Schiller is something like rutile in Rutilated Quartz and creates uniqueness unmatched by any other. Schiller comes in many forms, from heavy saturated deposit within a crystal to a single wire strand. Common terms used to describe the look of this phenomena are, plate(s), banded, barred, feather, vale, wires, speckle (tiny dots), but all enhance the beauty of the finished stone.
Color grading is determined by the amount of color saturation, how light or dark and type of color. The following is a list of colors found in Oregon Sunstone, from the most common to the rarest.
    Yellow (Champagne)
Schiller (Pure Copper Particles within the Host Crystal)
    Orange Red, Copper Red (Cinnamon)
    Bi-Color
    Watermelon (Red surrounded by Green)
    Pigeon Blood Red, Maroon Red
    Dichroic and Trichroic (Color Shift)
    True Red
    Green
Blue (Usually a blue-green or teal)
