Description
Up for bids is an 1864 Confederate States (CSA) Ten Dollar Note. Issued by the Confederacy to finance the Civil War. Engraved and printed by Keantige & Ball in Columbia South Carolina (see photo # 4). Same size as Federal U.S. currency of the day (see photo # 3). This note was issued — it has a serial number and signatures. Portrait of Jefferson Davis. Vignette of CSA cavalry soldiers. The obligation reads as follows:“Two years after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States of America, the Confederate States of America will pay 10 dollars to bearer.”
Stain on reverse, upper left, above the “T” in Ten. Same size as Federal Currency of the Civil War era. (See photo # 3).
