Offered for your consideration is a Civil War era .00 Treasury Warrant, issued by the state of Texas and catalogued by the late Grover Criswell as CR. 12. Rather than issuing a circulating currency, Texas monetary officials used warrants for specific amounts and for either military or civil service. The presently offered specimen features a vignette depicting President George Washington, standing with one arm outstretched and the other grasping a sword, at the left, with the financial obligation domination the right. ”). The obligation is encompassed by a green protectorate, with the denomination presented at the bottom. An additional signature appears vertically in red to the left of center (to register the note), while that of “
C H Randolph
” in his position as “
Tr
” (Treasurer) appears on the otherwise blank back. An interesting piece, since at the time it was issued, Francis R. Lubbock was serving as governor of Texas. A great addition to any Civil War or Southern States currency collection. Worthy of a strong bid.

Exceptional Paper Quality
” for the issue. Light toning is noted across the entire surface, imparting to the paper a somewhat off-white appearance to the unprinted areas. The contrast is excellent, with the green highlights on the front offering a nice flash of color among the black and white of the overall design. The edges are slightly irregular and ragged, the top and bottom being particularly so. Moderate wrinkling with a couple of corner folds can be seen at left, undoubtedly resulting in the assigned grade. Though technically not a circulating medium, pieces of this type are collected with obsolete currency issues, or as examples of the fiscal material produced as part of the Civil War. A sharp looking specimen of this popular issue.
